Well, may fortune favor the foolish.  With my wife expecting, and my carnie work status, I thought it would be better to take the family on the road rather than miss the first year of the baby's life.

Hopefully, it will not be a losing proposition.  But what the hell.  Some things cannot be equated to a dollar amount

By the way, Things have gotten Bigger...yet I'm smaller

This is Daytona 2007, and there seems to have been an explosion. Now, a metric assload of people, wires, trucks, inter-connects, and egos occupy the same space we did last year. Between FOX,TNT, ESPN, Speed, and DirecTV, none of which really cooperate with each other, everybody shows up with their own crew and production truck. Daytona was a nightmare, given the new TV deal, and I wish I would have documented it when it happened. But all has since been virtually blacked out, maybe I'll do better next year. I will make one note that seems to have been constant all season. That is, the two trucks that are horizontal....in the middle... are "in-car" cams and SRT (shared resources truck) and they have been the dividing line between the warring factions (or networks) all year long. I am located in SRT (middle right) and I am responsible for "in-car" replays for everyone. Yep....I'm shared (whored out, really) and serve many different masters. Sometimes I get a little bump in pay...sometimes not... but it beats swinging a hammer (I think).

After a Long Hiatus

I must update the blog to pull my own chain. I really can't help it, and this little event seems to be the perfect opportunity to really try to get myself in the habit. The little gem I am holding in my hand is the fourth issued to me by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, otherwise known as an "Emmy" Although only two are evident in the picture, Mom has one, and so does Dad...they'll vouch for me.

A little about the road...more to come

Most weekends from February to mid-November I am one of the gypsys on the travelling circus called NASCAR. I work as a technician in the tape room, which really doesn't use much tape anymore. It's all gone digital and the tape machines are basically Tivo machines on steroids. Tough to explain, really, to make a long story short, I do replays.

This is how the circus lays out, typically:

The big black "Caterpillar" trailer at the bottom is the generator that powers the whole show....it could power the whole track including lights and everything if necessary.

I'm new at this...so we'll just have to see

I thought this might be a fun way to let my friends and family know what is happening in my life, share a picture or two, and maybe joke once in a while. All this without having to call, e-mail, or write a letter....lazy? Maybe. In addition, it could turn into a outlet for venting frustrations or blowing my own horn....whatever is on my mind, or whatever is happening around me. Where it will actually go, I don't know.
